The Fisherman and His Wife

The Fisherman and His Wife Story for kids + Audio - Moonzia Once there lived a fisherman with his wife in a humble pigsty near the sea. Each day, he would go fishing, and one day, while sitting on the shore, he caught a remarkable fish that spoke to him. The fish pleaded to be released, claiming to be an enchanted prince. The fisherman, taken aback by the talking fish, decided to let it go, unwilling to deal with such extraordinary requests.

When he returned home and told his wife about the talking fish, she was intrigued. She urged him to go back and ask the fish for a cozy cottage instead of their pigsty. Reluctantly, the fisherman went back to the sea and called out to the fish. To his surprise, the sea turned yellow and green, and the fish granted his wife's wish—they found themselves in a charming cottage with a garden, ducks, and chickens.

Initially content, Ilsabill soon grew dissatisfied with the small cottage. She demanded a grand stone castle. Despite the fisherman's reservations, he returned to the sea where the waters had turned dark and gloomy. Again, he called upon the fish, who promptly granted Ilsabill's wish for a magnificent castle.

Living in their castle, Ilsabill enjoyed the luxuries, but soon she wanted more. She desired to be a queen and then an emperor. Each time, the fish granted her wishes, transforming her into increasingly powerful figures. Yet even as emperor, Ilsabill was unsatisfied; she wanted to be pope. The fisherman, distressed by his wife's insatiable ambitions, went back to the sea, which was now in turmoil. He reluctantly asked the fish for her latest wish, and again, the fish complied, making Ilsabill pope.

Despite all the power and grandeur, Ilsabill remained discontented. She envied the rising sun and moon, wishing to command them as well. The fisherman, now terrified, returned to the sea amidst a fierce storm, pleading for the fish to deny his wife's latest demand. But this time, the fish refused, instructing him to return home to their humble beginnings.

And so, the fisherman and Ilsabill returned to their pigsty, where they still live to this day, a cautionary tale of greed and ambition.
